A clean energy future is within our reach. Multiple other states have already passed similar legislation and North Carolina should be next. Technologies that were once novelties -- solar panels, wind turbines, LED light bulbs, electric cars and more -- have become everyday parts of America's energy landscape. America produces nearly eight times more renewable energy from the sun and the wind than in 2007, while the average American uses 10 percent less energy than a decade ago. But North Carolina can and must set our sights higher and meet 100% of our energy needs with clean, renewable energy. North Carolina is already number two for installed solar energy. We're already a clean energy leader, and this bill will move us even further -- protecting our planet, the air we breathe and the water we drink.
